A Pirate Guide to Legoland’s Brick-or-Treat
Five Must-Know Tips for Adventurers
We celebrated the mini pirates’ school fall break with an adventure to California’s Legoland Resort to check out their Brick-or-Treat Night. (This is NOT a sponsored post – we just had a great time and want to share our tips)
Here are the tips and tricks we learned along the way to get the most enjoyment out of your Brick-or-Treat Legoland adventure.
Pirate Tip 1 – Tickets & Hotel
We purchased our tickets as part of a package with two-day admission and a stay at the Legoland hotel. Buying them together saved us loads of pirate coin vs. getting them all separately. They have early bird offers as well so get in early to save the most.

If you have a large family or pirate crew, the Legoland hotel has a few rooms for up to six people. The mini pirates had a fantastic time in their own small bunk room with a private television. The captains’ quarters were spacious and there was a soft pull-out sofa for any other crewmembers in the living quarters.
Best of all, there is an entire floor dedicated to pirates. The second floor in the hotel is pirate-themed. Downstairs, everyone can enjoy boarding the lego pirate ship and busy hands have loads to occupy them with thousands of lego bricks.
Pirate Tip 2 – Costumes
Adults and children are encouraged to wear costumes to Legoland’s Brick-or-Treat Nights. You will see monsters, princesses, and pirates in all shapes and sizes. Most of the costumes come out at night (after 5pm) but some people chose to wear their costumes all day. There are a few water rides in the park and water parks so we suggest either keeping your costumes in your car or, much better, staying at the Legoland Hotel or Castle and change in your room. It won’t be fun to be in a soggy costume all night if you happen to get hit with a water gun on Splash Battle in Pirate Shores.
Pirate Tip 3 – Wristbands and Treat Stations
To stay in the park for Brick-or-Treat, you and your entire pirate crew will need to be armed with wristbands. Once you are inside the park, you will be directed to one of two wristband stations – to the left and right in the park. At these stations, you need to show your Brick-or-Treat tickets to receive the armbands. These armbands let the Legoland employees know you aren’t a stowaway and belong in the park after dark. And yes, you will see employees monitoring for bands so don’t try to hide in the park if you do not have tickets.
The armbands are also your ticket to candy! There are treat stations throughout the park and they are very efficient. No need for tricks – just treats. You will stand in line, open your bag, and be gifted with candy bounty – each treat station as something different. There’s even a commemorative Duplo brick so be sure to get that one as it changes each year.
Bring your own bag for candy or buy one in the Legoland shop. They also give out free themed paper bags, but if your pirate crew is as rough as mine, the bags will tear before the night is over. We had each mini pirate bring a mini backpack and those worked well in the park for the treats. It’s also a great place to showcase a lego keychain.
Pirate Tip 4 – Sea Shanties & Buffoonery
While you do have the option to ride the rides during Brick-or-Treat, a much better use of your time is to check out the list of activities and shows during the evening. Time your walk around the park to take advantage of several shows including Monster Bash Dance parties, the musical stylings of the Witchettes, three costume contests (in Miniland), and the 4-D Theatre’s “Frankenbrick” show. You’ll also have the opportunity for fun character meet-and-greets after the shows. Get your seat early for the best spots.
Costume Contest Shows
If you want to enter your mini pirates in the costume contest, don’t wear a store-bought outfit. Homemade creative costumes won the night. Pro Tip: Grab a few take-and-go pizzas from the pizza parlor across from the 4-D theatre and get your seat early for the shows.
Pirate Tip 5 – Light Your Own Way
Legoland is not usually open in the evenings; therefore, it stands to reason that they do not have the best lighting for evening events. Although there are lots of Christmas-style lights wrapping trees, there are many places in the park that are still very dark.
While pirates may be guided by the north star, they can’t see by it. Make sure to bring light-up necklaces, bracelets, and even a mini flashlight to help light the way on your journey through the park.
We used the basic (cheap) version and had fun mixing up the color combos.
